Default Masked Illustrator files causing Frame problems?

Has anyone encountered problems in FrameMaker when using masked Illustrator art? As part of our standard work process we have been told not to use masked art in Frame documents because of performance problems and printing problems. I know this was true with previous versions but was wondering if it got fixed with 8.0. We currently are using CS3 and would like to use masks if Frame can handle these files now.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
Denise

Denise,

I am not using Frame 8, but I do create masked illustrations in Illustrator. I have had not problems; however, I save my illustrations (CS2) as eps files and import them as eps into Frame. I have heard, but cannot verify, that Frame has troubles with native AI files.

Thanks Van. I am saving the graphics as .eps files (they are Illustrator files). About a year ago we stopped using masks on .eps files created in Illustrator because of problems the writers were having in FrameMaker when they would PDF the document and I think our print vendors were complaining about problems too. Unfortunately it wasn't documented and now people are asking why we can't mask art. I want to make sure we aren't repeating ourselves on this issue before we start masking art again.
