I would like to create a paper ripping effect for a web site. I have a before
image of the full piece of paper and an after image of the paper completely torn. I want to be able to show the piece of paper tearing to reveal the picture underneath. If someone wants to see the before and after pics just let me know where to email them. Thanks in advance for anyone that can help me with this. |

You "should" be able to do it with a motion tween. Make a layer for the intro,
and the start frame to the end frame and tween. In all the other layers, you could mask them up until a certain frame, or have them fade in, or just have them all be there as the paper rips to reveal whats behind. I'm pretty amateur still though, so i'm sure someone will come along and tell you how to do it better, but its a start. |

Hello,
I made two screenshots for the explanation: http://www.grafia.fr/demo/question1.php The idea is that you make 4 layers. In the bottom layer you put the full piece of paper and on top of that you make the layer a mask. After that you can put the torn paper in the next layer and you change the top layer to mask. You want that the full piece of paper is show first. You can put in the bottom mask a square that has a size that is bigger then the picture. In the top layer you put the same square but resize it to a height of for example 1 pixel. Now you need to make the masks move. You can do this by creating a keyframe on for example frame 10 (only for the 2 masks). For the two picture layers you need to insert frames until the 10th frame. After that you will need to change the height of the two shapes in the 10th frame. Now you can make the shape tweens of the two masks. Here you can find the end result with the FLA: http://www.grafia.fr/demo/result1.php Greetings ***** |

Hi Ed,
Just because Flash is a vector environment don't be afraid to work with raster effects in it. Check out the contact link on http://www.pier-21.com It's a clunky site but uses interesting effects. Go ahead and actually send the boys a message and watch how the paper curls up, inserts into the bottle, gets corked, and thrown ou the window. You could probably use a similar approach to achieve the tear you're looking for. Rob |
