Default Cannot save as 16-bit PCM

What happened to saving in the industry standard 44.1kHz, 16-bit, stereo.

I import an mp3 file and Audition forces me to edit in 32-bit. How can I import and edit in 16-bit data?

It's a big waste of space to save a 32-bit file (double).

It's a waste of my time to have to convert 32-bit to 16-bit when the source data was only an mp3 file.

Hello George,

In Options / Settings / Data, is 'Auto-convert all data on opening' checked? If so, unchecking it should cure your problem.

Regards,

Dave.

I checked the operation of this carefully, and I have to say that it works fine on this machine - unchecked, you get a 16-bit file upon opening an MP3 and checked, it opens it in native format. That's in EV. But, if you are doing this in MV, this setting is overwritten by the format decision you make for MV in general. So if you want them to open in 16-bit in MV, go the the multitrack settings and set it to operate on everything in 16-bit.

I've used Cool Edit since the 90s. Back when there was only one view -- edit view. Just recently upgraded this stable win98se box to XP and then this problem. I only want to save files that I can launch in an old winamp. And I don't think it is too much to expect a tool (Audition) to edit and save in standard windows pcm. Save in the standard CD audio format. Cmon Adobe, a default should be a standard format not some proprietary mismosh.

Are you seriously still using CE96 and expecting this to work under XP? If it works at all, I'd be amazed!
