Default Are there colors that will not go transparent with .gif

I am creating a .gif file with one color transparent. It is a dark yellow. For some reason, it will not go transparent when saving for web. When I select it and click transparent, another color will go transparent. I have fideled with all of the .gif settings.

Thanks

SH

A GIF image only has a 256 color palette. When you save the image are you
saving it as web-safe? Or as adaptive?

If the former, and the color you have selected is not a web-safe color,
e.g., #336699, then you will get the closest web-safe color to the one you
selected.

I understand your reply. However I know I have tried MacOS web safe and it still jumps to another color.

I have done this for years without issues. I create an image, save to web, and restrict the image to .gif and select 50 colors. The image now is parred down to 50 colors. I then select the background and I see it highlighted in the 50 color palette. When I hit the transparent button, it "skips" to another color. It doesn't matter how large or small the palette is, the color always skips to another. Even if the gif is set to Mac or Windows, it skips.

gif is really 256 colors at a time if using the adaptive setting.

Thanks.

Web safe is web safe. You should try adaptive, not web safe.

You really only have 256 colors max with any setting. but when you save as
web safe, the palette is populated only with web safe colors. When you
choose adaptive, the palette is populated with a color scheme based on the
image itself.

As long as you choose web safe, you will not be able to make a non-web safe
color transparent.

Thanks for the reply.

I am using Adaptive Gif. My palette is 12 colors that are all gray. Some of the colors will show a "lock" mark in the lower right corner when I try to make it transparent and it will skip over to another gray and transparent it.

I finally have a solution. I rebuild the part of the image that I need. That somehow reduces the colors needed to generate the "unlocked" colors.
