Default CS4 not rendering alpha channel

Just started using AE CS4 and cannot render an alpha with my qts. I have a lot of transparency but the render has full frame of alpha. I also tried rendering a png sequence and a photoshop file.

I am working on an 8-core two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400 series processors with
Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard

Thanks for your help -

Alicia

Are you enabling Alpha output correctly in the output module settings? What version of QT and which CoDecs? Are you using OpenGL rendering perhaps?

I tried enabling Use OpenGL Renderer in the render settings window
and got this error message : AE Open GL: Failed to render fragment.
5065::0

Any other ideas? I've tried rendering png and photoshop files with no luck.

You have not told us if you know how to do this. May newbies do not know how fiicult it can be to get alpha in the output file.
You must be using an output codec that supports alpha. There are only a few. animation is my favorite. Nor have you indicated you have set the output color selection properly, miilions+.

You are right, I apologize. I just assume everyone is experienced. I have been using AE for about 18 years. Never have seen this issue. I usually render out using animation using rgb+alpha & millions + but no luck. Then I tried a png sequence with rgb+alpha & millions + and still no luck. I also tried a photoshop render rgb+alpha with millions +.
Finally I moved to another suite. The engineer is going to try to change cards & do a reinstall of AE.

And David I won't post this on CC just to please you.

Again my apologies -

Mmh, that's more than just a little out of the usual. My guess is, that QT (or whatever other Apple apps you may be using) has severely messed up things. If so, a full reinstall of the OS and successive updates would seem the only way to get it back on track, since QT and its associated mechanisms are a core component and cannot be repaired easily otherwise. Maybe a manual download of a full QT/ iTunes installer might be a last resort without jumping the hoop...
