Default Arrange Documents menu blank

This is actually a sub-thread of this one:

Mylenium, "Initial issues with PS CS4 Extended Windows XP Pro." #1, 16 Oct 2008 8:52 pm </webx?14@@.59b6c47c/0>

Since several users, including me, have reported that the top part of the Arrange Documents menu is blank in PS CS 4, I thought it would be helpful to those doing a search on the problem.

As seen in the other thread, removing the NIK plugins fixed the problem. In my case, it was removing the PhotoKit module from the Automate directory. I've been in touch with Pixel Genius Support about the PhotoKit problem, and they are having their engineer look into it.

Bottom line, it seems that if you're having this problem you might want to start by removing plugins to see if that cures it.

You're the greatest. I removed the Nik Selective Tool (SelectivePalette.8li) and my problem (a blank arrange documents menu) was gone.

Thank you.

Chris, it looks to be more than reporting it to a company so they can fix it...PixelGenius, who has very similar problems with Photokit Color 2.1.1. (most recent version) informed me that they have determined it is a bug in Photoshop CS4 and that they have reported it to Adobe. With PhotoKit Color 2 installed, if you run the plug in once, the icons reappear for Arrange Documents BUT you have to do this every single time you open Photoshop. Can you provide some additional information? Is PixelGenius correct in that this is a CS4 issue that Adobe needs to address?

John - we're still talking to PixelGenius about that. It sounds like a misunderstanding of how resources work, and how persistent plugins work on their part.

With regard to the Nik Selective plugin I've found that there's no need to remove it, if you do Help-About Plugins-Nik Selective the icons reappear. You have to do this each time you open Photoshop however.

Chris - I appreciate the reply. It's frustrating though. CS4 has been out since mid-October - two months - and there is still finger pointing as to whose problem it is with various plug-ins, whether PixelGenius, NIK, OnOne, etc.; and even "fixed" plug-ins, like those from OnOne and NIK aren't fixed...they're workarounds or "live with it" solutions. Various plug-ins are an essential part of the workflow for many, probably the majority, of Photoshop users; it's disheartening that their seems to be so little collaboration between some of the major player and Adobe and vice-versa. I know it may be a bit too idealistic to think that updated plug-ins and the newest version of Photoshop would be released simulataneoulsy, but eight weeks without progress in some instances is baffling.
